Yew Tree School

Ashstone MEP were appointed by Primech Building Services to deliver the mechanical heating design for refurbishment works at Yew Tree Community School, Birmingham. The project focused on upgrading ageing heating infrastructure within the main school building while improving system performance, control, and long-term reliability.

The school comprises a predominantly single-storey main building dating from the early 1900s, housing teaching spaces, halls, kitchen and dining facilities, offices, and communal areas. Design works were developed specifically for Block EFAA.

Design Scope

• New heating system design for nursery, lower school classrooms, dining hall, and office areas, integrating with retained modern boiler plant

• Replacement heating system design for upper school classrooms and main hall, including new plantroom configuration

• Zoned heating distribution layouts to improve control and circulation

• Design for system pressurisation, upgraded controls, and BMS integration

• Gas detection and CO₂ monitoring system design

• Coordination of pipework insulation and plantroom ventilation requirements

This project demonstrates Ashstone MEP’s collaborative approach to working with building services contractors, providing clear mechanical heating designs that accommodate retained systems while enabling phased refurbishment works.
