Worthing Gas Works

Ashstone MEP were appointed to deliver MEP services design for all blocks at the Worthing Gas Works development for Berkeley Homes, comprising 228 residential plots across 3–7 storey buildings, with Block B requiring submission under the Gateway 2 Building Safety Regulator (BSR) process.

The scope of services included the coordinated design of mechanical, electrical, and public health systems across the development. Nilan Compact P exhaust air heat pump systems were incorporated to serve the dwellings, alongside a life-safety standby generator to support critical systems. Ashstone MEP also undertook SAP calculations, overheating analysis, and water efficiency calculations to support compliance with Building Regulations.

Ashstone MEP prepared the BSR compliance statement for the Gateway 2 submission and worked in close coordination with the architect and specialist fire stopping contractor, alongside the fire alarm, sprinkler, and AOV contractors, to develop and provide all required fire strategy interfaces, penetration details, and supporting technical information.

The project required complex 3D modelling of all MEP services, including below-ground and buried services, to ensure full coordination across the buildings and site-wide infrastructure. The design also accounted for phased groundworks, allowing enabling works to be undertaken in advance by a separate contractor, with subsequent stages completed by others.

This project demonstrates Ashstone MEP’s experience in delivering coordinated, safety-critical MEP designs for multi-storey residential developments with complex regulatory and phasing requirements.
