The Weald Sports Centre

Ashstone MEP were appointed to deliver MEP services design for The Weald Sports Centre, an existing leisure facility, working with DMA.

The scope of services included the refurbishment design of the existing boiler room, alongside the development of a decarbonisation plan to support long-term carbon reduction. Ashstone MEP carried out an assessment of existing heating loads to confirm sufficient system capacity and inform the integration of a new air source heat pump (ASHP), supported by the design of new buffer vessels.

To accommodate increased electrical demand, Ashstone MEP also designed a new electrical substation to serve the ASHP installation and provide capacity for future electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The ASHP installation was housed within a purpose-designed external plant enclosure, integrated sensitively within the site.

The scope also included modifications to the existing control system to incorporate the new plant and new metering to enable accurate monitoring of energy consumption and system performance.

Designs were developed for delivery within a live leisure environment, requiring careful coordination with existing services, plant constraints, and operational requirements. The services strategy was progressed in close collaboration with the wider project team to support buildability, efficiency, and phased implementation.

This project reflects Ashstone MEP’s experience in delivering practical, future-ready MEP design solutions for the refurbishment and decarbonisation of existing leisure facilities.
